Facebook to open London engineering base to focus on mobile platforms (Wired UK)
Facebook has announced that its first engineering office outside of the US will be located in London, where developers will build on the company’s mobile platforms. Software engineer Philip Su — who will head up the department at the company’s Covent Garden headquarters — said in a statement that London was the “perfect fit” because of its “vibrant local startup community with lots of great technical talent”. The small starter team — just 22 jobs are being advertised online, only five of which are for engineers — will “grow over time and eventually focus on building products in key areas like mobile and platform,” added Su.
